Semi Abstract series

I don’t do series often but more so groups of two and three. This painting is number 2 in a two-piece set. It stands independently on its own and has a boldness about it that will command attention when viewed. If you know the story behind its counterpart, it is exactly the same.

These two large canvases hung directly next to each other in my first gallery/studio. They were printed with a one of kind Oil paint plotter from a photo I took of my shadow. Read the Description of “Silhouette of My Younger Self, Actualized, Pt. 1” for more insight. It’s funny how when you try and replicate a painting how hard it is to achieve the same lines, shapes, and colors.

The colors are inversed, not on purpose and the shapes took form by chance too. I do think that I attempted to replicate the general design but nothing else was intended. I really like how the chrome step side of the vehicle is still untouched in the top right corner and when seen, up close, creates this natural blurred effect.

Patrons of mine, and others, often comment about my choice in color. I can’t tell you the number of times I get complimented on my choice in colors, every time, someone will say something about my color choices, never fails. The truth is ALL my color choices are random, in fact, they are chosen in my brain in such a way as to try and choose a color that CAN’T work, or that SHOULDN’T work. I think of the most fake ass art critics and collectors, and I choose the color that would piss them off, that’s the color choice behind my madness.

These paintings are a consequence of just those thoughts. The title is also an inverse of its mate, instead of “Silhouette of My Younger Self, actualized” it is titled “The Apparition of Younger Me, Conceptualized”. So, SILHOUETTE vs APPARITION, Me vs SELF, and ACTUALIZED vs CONCEPTUALIZED.

The colors fit the change in titles too. Everything about this two-piece set works, independently, and together they are hard to deny.
