Semi Abstract Cup of Excellence

“The Cup of Future Knowledge” The way I see it we ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. That would explain why the true right and wrong are really written in our hearts.  We know whether our actions are good or evil, it’s that simple and I tend to overcomplicate it to make excuses for my greed or selfish behaviors. One simply says, “let me manipulate or ignore what I know to be truth, righteousness or justice so that I can have my way and suit my needs“.

This painting was another rarity painted from a sketch I did in early 2023.  It reminds me of a giant Chalice, like the old beer steins my parents had from Germany.  The kind with the big handles that opened the top of the cup, the kind you crashed together while PROSTING something wonderful and joyous. When I sketch, I push the limits of my aesthetic comforts and for me that includes realistic things, like eyeballs in this case.

Realistic subject matter seems less consequential and more semi abstract. What happens is that while I step back and observe the consequences of my brushstrokes sometimes, I can see things that are more relatable like eyeballs and giant cups. That’s what happened in this case. I liked the sketch, so I decided to paint it. I am just now learning, after 30 years of painting, how easy it is to paint from a sketch.  Literally takes very little effort and time at all.

Most all my paintings come straight from my soul, my existence, the exact consequences of all my actions up until the very point the brush meets the canvas, so navigating the painting till the end is not a quick process. The title simply defines possibly what this object is, or what the image tells me, the artist. What if I could drink from this mythical cup, would I, would you? You would take the risk of seeing a wasted life that now you would be forced to live, or you would see wonderful things yet to come that you can’t wait to wake up and discover, would you take the chance?

This painting represents living in the now and leaving what is to come just where it is, in the future.  Please note that it also has a handle, pointing towards how the future can easily be in your hands.
