A fade Away
I was going through an experimental phase which involved brushstrokes with multiple colors on them. I would paint the canvas with deliberate broad brushstrokes. I would dab the brush in two to three different colors and fill the canvases with these multi colored strokes. After the canvas was filled, I would then sit back and see what I could form in my head from what I then saw created by all the lines and colors.
The problem I have had consistently throughout my life, as I have been creating art, is simply put like this: I spend way too much time looking at a piece of work in progress than actually painting on it, and its very frustrating. Its frustrating because 99% of what I see or paint in my head never would appear on the canvas. I started recognizing this about five years into my career as an artist. So, I began training myself to get off my ass and do the things I was thinking about doing in my head.
This painting is the result of such a process. When I catch myself creating in my head its usually pretty bold thoughts of how to change, tweak, or take a painting to a completely different level. Over the last 25 years I have gotten better at just getting up, grabbing a brush and putting those thoughts into real life.
I love this piece, one of my favs of all time. It took about a year for this piece to get together. There are so many dimensions in it that its hard to tell what’s going on. The colors work exceptionally well together and the frame just sets it all off.
