Semi Abstract Room
This piece was done back in my old studio, the old gallery called the art station. It's part of a six-painting series. The series takes place in a fictitious room that has various objects in it. In this particular room there's an ornate table, a candlestick, a rug and either two paintings or one painting and a mirror that reflects another painting that happens to be part of the series.
The image in the mirror is the image of another painting that's in this series. Or it can be perceived as the actual painting that's in this series hanging in the room above the table. Either way you look at it the music stand painting is in this painting. All six of the paintings from this series seem to be related to music, or music lyrics.
The music stand painting is in a collection in Nashville, Tennessee. And I'm pretty sure that same collector has another one from the series. They were fun to paint, and it was an experiment in Venetian red. This is yet again the consequence of me getting rid of a lot of paint. I'd been collecting loads of paint at the time, back in late 2010. And so, the series is really heavy on the paint. The frame in this painting is very thick paint and creates the three-dimensional mold of a frame.
It's a departure from my normal style and was entirely consequential at the time. This was painted before I even could put a finger on the road to consequentialism that I was headed towards, or ultimately that I had been on this entire time.
This painting simply started with a pallet knife and paint, scraping it down the canvas and ultimately into the form of this room. The room is fictitious and doesn't exist in reality, other than through this painting. I kind of feel like it's a common setup though in some rooms somewhere.
To own this piece and the music stand piece would be the ideal collection. Hanging both pieces in the same room or under the same roof would prove to be beautiful and complete. I can put you in contact with the owner of the music stand piece should you want to possibly make them an offer, but they probably won't sell it. Who knows though, enough money has a way of making people change their mind.
