Semi Abstract Dig

In my home studio there's room to put up approximately 22 large canvases, all at once. I had designed it that way so that I could work on multiple pieces all the time. This painting comes from the second series of panties out of that studio.

I generally fill up the studio with blank canvases then spend about six months creating them. They rarely get finished before they are pulled down, sent to the stretcher and put into hibernation until I can get to them. It helps in the process of morphing all of what is my life into many paintings, one painting at a time.

This is an exhaustive attempt at the raw feeling that I've been going for. This is an unconscious reach, and effort towards that goal. At the time I hadn't realized what it was I wanted but that doesn't change the fact that I was heading that direction. This painting has no particular meaning other than I wanted to create something pretty and pleasing to the eye and soul, and I wanted to do it in a way that was unconventional.

I feel like I accomplished that here and with the right frame and the proper room I don't think anybody would be disappointed, unless Donald Trump was standing in that room. It Is a great example of me staying busy and pushing the process to get to where I want to be.

This was a sneaky guidepost in 2017 for what I was reaching for in 2023. I used a grease pencil over oil paint which is not typically what you do. The methods of creating this image are nothing you would typically see, but they work really well together.

It was done in a grouping of eight canvases the exact same size and turned out unlike any of the other ones. There is only one other painting in my collection that mirrors this style and content. That makes me unique in and of itself, always changing, pushing my art to the next level.

For some reason I have an affinity towards Greece pencils. Some people call them China markers. Regardless, it's the kind of pencil where you have a string that you pull down and then you must unravel a tiny strip of paper to reveal the tip of the pencil. Maybe because the drawing apparatus is so interactive, perhaps that's why I like them so much.
