Semi Abstract Revelation
This is an interesting piece conceptualizing the moment in the future when Jesus said to John “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Matt 3:15. I met a girl named Quynh on Instagram through Fred Smith.
She painted an amazing painting of the face of Jesus, and I kept going back to her page and looking at it. You can’t help but see someone’s lifestyle or a little insight into their life through Instagram, even if it’s only through their art. I ended up buying that painting of Jesus from her, most expensive piece of art I have ever purchased, but it resides well over my studio, and it was money well spent too me.
So, Quynh was graduating from Wake Forest as a Studio Arts Major I believe, and I offered her a job in my studio for the summer if she wanted. I am not a famous painter needing an assistant or anything, but I had some ideas that I would be happy to pay someone to help with. I get inspired by other artists. This painting was one of them. It started off with her choosing an image of the crucifixion, I wanted it in the center of the piece, I believe she chose the color. The rest of the painting literally evolved with no plan.
It really is an amazing collaboration and the only painting I have ever ‘Directed” or “Produced”. Without Quynhs existence this painting would have never been painted. The bottom third of the piece is a lighter blue that ended up getting shaped into the curvature of the earth. The central image seems to be transcending space and time, breaking through each dimension in a reference to Revelations 1:7 “Riding the clouds, he'll be seen by every eye, those who mocked and killed him will see him, People from all nations and all times will tear their clothes in lament. Oh, Yes.”
It is clearly a commanding piece of art and will dominate any room, period. It is signed R+ which
