Semi Abstract Description

The Passing of Time, Conceptualized.  Like several of my paintings this piece involves another artist. When I left the 82nd Airborne Division (2000) I parted ways with an artist named Micheal Nighswonger.  Bat sh-t crazy multi-talented artist from Fayetteville, NC via Los Angeles, CA.  Super long history here behind him and me.  Fast forward 18 years and I reconnect with this dude while he is living in Adirondack mountains of New York state.  He is still the drunk that he used to be only older and ornerier and more conceited.  I have this brilliant idea to invite him down to paint together and discuss possibly doing a show.  I fly him down for a 24 hour stay and we have a decent time until he pours a few too many beers down his throat.

Time goes by that first day and we find ourselves in my home studio conversating and applying various layers to this canvas.  He is half drunk by now and whatever aesthetic progress I make on the painting is soon destroyed by his ego.  He leaves the next day and I take some pure turpentine gum spirits and do a rub with some old vintage Grumbacher pastels, that’s where the purple color comes from in the piece.  As per usual it sits for many years.  I liked the composition as it was, but it needed a lot more work.  Fast forward to late winter of 2023, January timeframe and I pick it up and finish it.  Absolutely love the way it turned out.  The title simply depicts how time passes between friends and it’s not always for the better.  It’s a quasi-reference to the beginning lines of Pink Floyds “Time” ……. ticking away the moments that make up the dull day, you fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.  Another great example Consequentialism.
