Semi Abstract Trash
This painting was started with a stencil. More so, it was the consequence of me showing a friend of mine how I randomly start paintings. At some point somebody used my truck, I think it was my friend Chris used it one afternoon to take trash to the dump. Durning that process they left a plastic piece of a bicycle helmet.
It was the piece that goes on top of the shield that's like an embellishment to make the helmet look more rad or aesthetically pleasing. They call it a detachable visor. Anyway, it did detach in the back of my pickup truck, and I picked it up one morning while I was cleaning out my truck and thought to myself this would be a good stencil for a painting.
Now enter my friend John; we had just started hanging out and he was asking how I get my ideas for my paintings, and I said "just like this" I went into the garage and grabbed this bicycle helmet trash, a blank canvas, and some dark gray spray paint. I simply laid the stencil down on the canvas, hit it with some spray paint, flipped the stencil upside down and stenciled that as well.
The result was kind of like a weird teethy looking object, or a cave. I then explained to him that now I'll just sit back and see what comes out. That's exactly what happened; this painting is a consequence of those interactions that day along with somebody borrowing my truck and leaving some random trash in the back. It goes deep if you want…it’s the consequence of two people having sex and conceiving the child that used the helmet, it’s the consequence of some store selling the helmet, it’s the consequence of Johns curiosity.
The point being is that without everything, literally everything, being exactly the way it was supposed to be, this painting would not have been created. I've given you some photo examples of the random stuff that created this painting. It’s a rad piece and I love it to death. I was excited to paint this piece and it effortlessly formed. I did not struggle at all with this painting, it did not sit in painting hibernation for years but was completed over the course of a few weeks.
