Semi Abstract Free Will
This is one of the first paintings I did after my divorce in 2021. It's one of the beginnings of the “God and Man” or “The Obelisk Concept” series. This links to that series https://www.rckarpinsky.com/store-1
The original thought was to go for something really raw and sketchy. I had and still have this desire to produce art that is Raw and Pure like a fervent sketch. I want my art to express passion as a movement or have the viewer feel passion as an action. Passion is defined as “Strong, barely controllable emotion” or “an intense desire or enthusiasm”.
Consequently, it is also defined as “the suffering and death of Jesus”. Now I am no Jesus, for sure, but after my wife left me, I began to question a lot of things about life, its value, and what was really important. So inherently I turned to God and for me this naturally includes diving deep into my art. It is my way of escape, a healthy and productive way for me to isolate.
It's much healthier than morbid reflection, self-pity, or depression. I've described this feeling in other paintings, it was rather surreal being alone after living together with four other people for 10 years, and then being alone instantly. The relationships that I had established and built were instantly gone and I had to question my part in all of it.
So, for whatever reason I started sketching and drawing representations of God and man, and woman. The center object always represents a man, what surrounds the man, or what is near the base of the man is the foundation that man stands on; ultimately still derived and being encompassed by God.
If there's another obelisk or shape near the center subject it's always the idea, concept or thought of being with a woman, intimately as one. One-night stands have never interested me, it's always been with the attitude of commitment and longevity. I thank my parents for that.
So basically, in a painting like this; everything around the center obelisk is God and all the influences God is, to include anybody. The edges or outline of the center obelisk is only touched by God and what is inside the obelisk is a combination of God and man, should I allow it, of course.
